Konferenz: Circular Design

13./14. 11. 2015, FH Salzburg

Weiterlesen -> Circular Design (Konferenz)

Migrations of the Third Millennium: an Opportunity for Europe

by Prince Michael of Liechtenstein

Europe is watching with bewilderment the inflow of refugees and immigrants through its borders, and the human tragedies that inevitably accompany such treks. Just as bewildering is why Europe has been so unprepared. This migration was predictable. It has long been obvious that millions of people would soon be pouring in.
This mass south-to-north migration is epochal, more important than Europe’s debt crisis or the smouldering conflict in Ukraine. It has powerful underlying causes and the dangers and opportunities it brings are many … Continue reading -> GIS

The Dirty Truth About Organic

The Ugly Truth about “Organic”

by Henry I. Miller

Passionate advocates of organic farming and foods resemble members of a religious cult, one founded on a “back to Nature” mentality. They are not so fundamentalist, however, that they do not make concessions to reality. For example, organic standards arbitrarily define which pesticides are acceptable, but allow “deviations” if based on “need.”  … Continue Reading ->  Hoover Institution

An Economist looks at Europe

by Pedro Schwartz

Few economists in history have attracted such a large following as John Maynard Keynes. Not only did he fascinate two generations in the 20th century, he still is an inspiration for today’s large and distinguished ‘New-Keynesian’ school—or should I say, ‘schools’. The conundrum is why so many swear by his name though so little has been kept of the original model of his General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money (1936), except his insistence that aggregate demand is the main mover of the economy and that the price system does not function well. … Continue Reading ->  Kenyes as Lucifer (PDF,  0.4 MB)

Ukraine: Light at the End of the Tunnel

Ukraine: Light at the End of the Tunnel

Ukraine has a history of 70 years of communism followed by more than 20 years of mismanagement. The odds seem stacked against the country, yet there are signs of hope, writes Prince Michael of Liechtenstein. Ukrainian society and its economy suffer from too much bureaucracy, too many laws and an extravagant number of civil servants. Together, they breed rampant corruption, which hampers the economy and is the country’s biggest problem. …

Downsize States to Empower Local Decision Making?

Privacy in context of new communication systems

Essay by Prince Michael of Liechtenstein

Today’s trend is to do as much as possible electronically. The result is that nearly everything is, and remains, recorded. It is the view of many that a lack of privacy is not a problem, because they have the attitude ‘I don’t mind people knowing because I have done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide.’ But this very attitude constitutes a great danger. That attitude opens the way to create a totally transparent person deprived of any right to personal and financial privacy … Continue reading -> Trusts & Trustees, July 2015

Downsize States to Empower Local Decision Making?

Weiterlesen ->  Volksblatt, 23. Parliament should defend the rights of the people

US and European monetary policy upsets the markets

Bad news on the US economy resulted in equity markets closing on a high for the S&P and the Dow Jones indexes on Monday, May 18. Sound Money through Monetary Competition

by Pedro Schwartz.

Money is the wild card of the capitalist game. In the past century, financial and monetary upsets recurred, with the Great Depression as the nadir.
